Thaipusam

Some 1 million people from all walks of life including the Tourists congregated at this venue and it was a mesmerising sight to behold. Many pilgrims are pierced with steel skewers, some through the tongue, some through the cheeks Next year I will be organising a Thaipusam Tour and one would be able to see all action at the Batu Caves Temple.

Thaipusam

Yesterday 17 January 2014 was Thaipusam Festival which is celebrated by the Hindus in the months of either January or February every year. Its all about faith, endurance and penance. The Hindus show their appreciation to one of their Gods , Lord Murugan or Subramaniam - the son of Lord Shiva.

The festival was brought from India when the Indian immigrants started to work in Malaysia. Since 1888 it was celebrated as an expression of cultural and religious identity of Malaysians of Tamil Indian origin.

The Shrine of Lord Murugan is located at the Batu Caves - 13 kilometres outside Kuala Lumpur.

The 140 feet Statue of Lord Murugan is an attraction of majestic undertaking, built by artisans from India.

The picture above shows one of the modes of thanksgiving for granting of wishes.
