Tanis Archaeological Site and the Suez Canal
A representative will pick you up from your hotel in Cairo to begin your tour. Travel to Suez Governorate to discover some of the top things to do in the region, including Tanis, Bubastis, and the Suez Canal. Then continue to Tanis, one of the most important archaeological sites in Egypt. Here, you will visit the Royal tombs of kings from both the 21st and the 22nd Dynasties, who were buried within the temple precinct at Tanis. On February 27, 1939, the French Egyptologist Pierre Montet entered what appeared to be a tomb that had been plundered many centuries earlier, among the fertile palm groves of the Nile Delta. On the walls of the underground chamber, the name of Takelot II, sovereign of the XXII Dynasty, was engraved. What he had discovered was nothing less than the lost Necropolis of the pharaohs of Tanis, which contained some of the most awesome treasures found in Egypt. After the tour, return to your hotel.
