Discover Historic Zadar and Its Waterfront Wonders
Our tour will start at Queen Jelena Madijevka Park, a hidden and peaceful oasis located right in the middle of the bustling old city. The park also affords an unmatched view of the most beautiful part of the impressive, UNESCO-protected 16th-century city walls, namely the Landward Gate. We will then walk through Five Wells Square and pass St. Simeon's Church, which holds the golden chest with Saint Simeon's Casket. Here, you will hear interesting legends and stories surrounding the golden chest that holds the mummified body of the silver-crowned, bearded saint. Continue through Kalelarga Street to the beautiful People's Square. You might get a chance to see performances by local musicians in front of the 16th-century City Lodge and the City Sentinel. Those taking this tour in the morning will be rewarded with a visit to the bustling town market, where you will see a broad range of local products, from fish, meat, figs, and other fruits and vegetables to local souvenirs. At the end of Kalelarga Street stands the well-preserved 9th-century Church of St. Donatus. An inside visit to the church will be followed by one to the nearby Roman Forum, which serves as a favourite coffee spot for locals and tourists and is bound to be an interesting experience. To gain a holistic insight into the life, history, and culture of Croatia, the guide will also take you on a guided visit to the Zadar Archaeological Museum. In the final leg of our tour, we will cover a long and beautiful waterfront to witness the unique Sea Organ, as well as various solar-powered urban installations that allow us to enjoy natural music created by wind and waves. This would already be an enchanting end to the tour, but those opting for evening tours will additionally be rewarded with views of a stunning sunset, which the famous director Alfred Hitchcock once called the most beautiful in the world.
