After that, return to the homestay and, after lunch, explore the historical Buxa Fort. Buxa Fort has an interesting history. Previously, the King of Bhutan used the fort to protect a portion of the famous Silk Route, which connected India and Tibet via Bhutan, but later it was abandoned. This area was a point of contention between the King of Bhutan and the Cooch kings. After the British intervened at the invitation of the Cooch King and captured the fort, it was formally handed over to them on 11th November 1865 as part of the Treaty of Sinchula. The British restored the fort from its original bamboo and wood structure into a stone structure. Later, they used it as a high-security prison and detention camp for freedom fighters. This fort was the most unreachable prison in India after the Cellular Jail in Andaman. Buxa Fort has an interesting history.
