Rabat Heritage Day Trip from Casablanca
Begin early for a scenic 1-hour drive along the Atlantic Coast to Rabat. Upon arrival, visit Hassan Tower, a red sandstone mosque tower from the 12th century. Visit the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, which contains the tombs of the Moroccan king Mohammed V and his two sons. This building is considered a masterpiece of modern Alaouite dynasty architecture. After lunch, continue to the Bouregrag River, where you will stop to visit the Kasbah of the Udayas, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed kasbah (Islamic fortress) built during the reign of the Almohads. Wander through the maze-like streets of Rabat's Old Medina, filled with palaces, mosques, and bustling markets. View the ramparts of the Mechouar, a heavily guarded royal palace surrounded by gardens. Conclude your day trip with a leisurely drive back to Casablanca.
