    Day 01

Walk the Ping Shan Heritage Trail

Meet your tour guide, who will lead you through the Ping Shan Heritage Trail, the first heritage walk in Hong Kong, opened in 1993. Appreciate the traditional constructions and the remarkable rural development in the villages located along the way. You will commence your walk at Tsui Sing Lau Pagoda, the oldest pagoda in Hong Kong, and then head to one of the most iconic walled villages, Sheung Cheung Wai. Here, the guide will show you the water well that serves as fish feed for purposes of Feng Shui and tourism and explain its importance in earlier times. You will also learn about the correlation of the local God of Earth with farming and how the villagers appease the deity to avoid bad luck. Passing the Ting Building - also known as the Baby Boy House - you will examine some buildings from the 1940s that have gun holes in them. Continue towards Yeung Hau Temple, one of the 7 temples dedicated to the old Chinese general who protected the emperor and helped him escape from China to Hong Kong. During your heritage walk, the guide will enrich your experience with stories about Hong Kong's long-preserved traditions that have influenced both the past and present, and how popular customs like Feng Shui make their way into everyday life here. The next and final leg of your tour will take you deeper into the Tang Clan's ancestral village. You will visit their ancestral hall to witness some of the finest constructions made in the old Chinese style, still in use to this day. Another ancestral building you will explore is the Kun Ting Study Hall with its Soul Tablet, a building full of beautiful craftsmanship.
